How much can I expect to spend in Shenzhen?
Shenzhen is a comparatively expensive city in China. Expect to pay 2500 for a modern 1-2 bedroom apartment in a central area. For everyday expenses, you can live quite comfortably on 100 RMB / day, eating out for meals and drinking a few beers.

What is the weather like in Shenzhen?
Shenzhen is hot and humid in the summer, and comfortably cool in the winter. All apartments are equipped with air conditioners, but few have heating, so be prepared to wear warm clothes inside during the winter months. Shenzhen can get wet in the spring and summer, and is  occasionally subject to typhoons – especially between July and September.

How do I find a place to live?
The standard in Shenzhen is to pay two months’ rent as deposit for a one year contract. There are rental agencies throughout Shenzhen that will introduce you to the apartment you are looking for, and the agency will ask for 50% of the monthly rental once the contract is signed. Excelliance  will offer support in finding a place to live.

What do I need for my visa?
The standard working visa is called a Z Visa, which will be provided and paid for by Excelliance upon successful completion of your probation  period. You will need the following paperwork:

  1. A health certificate obtained locally within Shenzhen.
  2. A police record obtained from the local police station to your Shenzhen apartment.
  3. Your degree certificate

Do I need to be knowledgeable about business?
Yes.  While we do not require our trainers to have a business degree, they do have to have some quality work experience and training  experience under their belt.  The main requirement is to be a fast learner, adaptable and diligent.

What are the expectations of the students?
The students are made up of a migrant population from all parts of China. Generally, they are polite and respectful. This being said, they are also extremely busy, and expect to have noticeable results from their English training. Therefore, it is important to set learning goals, and to  constantly check on the progress towards these goals.

How long is a typical course?
Most courses are 48 hours long. Typically, courses are over within 3 months.

When are the classes usually taught?
Courses take place mainly on weekday evenings and on Saturday, although there are occasional classes in the daytime.

Where are the classes usually taught?
All company training takes place on the clients’ site. The clients are mostly within the central areas, although a few are on the borders of  Shenzhen. In such cases, transport is both provided and paid for.

What is the typical format of a course?
Although we teach writing classes and a few tailor made courses, the majority of the lessons are in general oral business English. The focus is to improve oral ability in a business context. Typical oral business modules taught are as follows:

  1. Negotiations
  2. Meetings
  3. Presentations
  4. Complaints
  5. Telephoning

The trainer will be expected to give and mark homework throughout, as well as administer and mark a test at the end of the course. All the student information will be kept in a report, which the trainer will be expected to maintain.

What other duties will there be other than teaching?
Obviously, as we try to set the benchmark for English language training, a large proportion of your office time will be spent on lesson preparation. Other duties include the following:

  1. Meetings with clients to discuss needs analysis
  2. Placement testing
  3. Telephone interviews
  4. Proposal writing
  5. Marketing events
  6. Excelliance company meetings/trainings.
