| Laws for drinking |
A bouncer is the guard at the front of a night club, bar and pub. Reasons he will not let you in are: |
Age limit. This means that you can enter only if you are at a certain age. In America you must be at least 21 to enter. Canada you need to be 19 years old. Australia and UK is 18 years old. |
Dress code. This means when entering you need to wear certain clothes and a pub will at least expect you to wear shoes and a shirt. This will vary for bars, for instance a bar will want customers to wear shirt with collar and no jeans. |
The bouncer has a lot of authority when allowing people to enter, for instance if you say to him "your ugly" he will not let you in just because you made him angry. If you are causing trouble inside the bar or pub such as fighting with someone the bouncer will kick you out. |
Restaurants and liquor license |
A liquor license means that a restaurant is legally allow to serve alcohol but you can't bring in drinks from home. In America and Canada there is not many places where you are allowed to bring in drinks. |
However in UK and Australia there are quite a few places where you can BYO. This means "bring your own" sometimes it means the restaurant can't afford to pay the liquor license or because the people in the area prefer to bring their own rather than pay extra. |
Designated driver is a person in the group who won't drink so he/she can drive everyone home. |
This is because of strict laws that a driver must have a very low BAC. (Blood alcohol content) |
| If you exceed the BAC limit you might lose your driver's license and/or spend time in jail. |
