Pinball is a type of coin-operated arcade game where a player
attempts to score points by manipulating one or more metal balls on a playing field inside
a glass covered case called a pinball machine. The primary objective
of the game is to score as many points as possible. Secondary objectives
are to maximize the time spent playing (by earning extra balls and by
keeping the ball in play as long as possible) and to earn free games (known
as replays). |

Then
came the video arcade. The first one opened in 1971. By the 1980’s, these places were a
popular hang out for kids. One of the most popular games was called
"Pac-Man." |

you went, and play whenever you wanted. |

home computer boomed in the 80's. The most popular was Commodore 64. |

secret to their success was that they sold in supermarkets rather than in specialized

Parents
preferred their children to have these then spend a lot of money at the
arcade. One of the first games was "Donkey Kong."

the 80's, Nintendo revolutionized the home console unit, and portable handheld"Game Boy." Their most popular
game was "Mario Bros." |

simulator: flying and racing games that you sit within a booth. Cockpit is where the pilot sits to fly a plane. Simulator is a device to create an artificial world. |

Air
Hockey:
air is pushed through tiny holes that make a puck glide over the table. Two
players use bats to try to get the puck into the other player's goal. |

Crane:
this is a redemption game, which means you win a prize. The metal claw
is guided by the player who has to successfully grab a prize. |

Skee Ball: you throw the balls into the
holes, the hardest is the highest. You then collect tickets to give to the

Joystick: older game consoles used this
device to move the character, spaceship or car. |

Controller: the old joystick could not keep up with the amount of functions
needed for modern games. |

to our bodies. The game controller is more comfortable to play with because

Stage: instead
of using a game controller, the sensors are on a platform for you to
dance on. |

Reality: for
you to experience a three dimensional environment. A computer screen visor and gloves with sensors to simulate a physical world. |

remote controller that doesn't require cords connecting to the console. |

Shoot'em
Up games: generally
refers to games that you have to shoot an object. Some arcade games have
guns as controllers. |

Adventure
games: refers
to games with multiple levels or worlds. The object is solve puzzles, and
collect points. |

Foosball:
is a
table-top game based on football (UK)
or soccer (America) |

Silicon
Chip:
the brains of a computer. |

you view the game as the character. You can't see yourself but only your
hands and what you hold. |
